Through their desire to share their expertise on values, mission, goals, leadership, and team management as the building blocks for success, Marilyn and Hal Shook have written three books that focus on individuals growing professionally and personally. Each book is a unique illustration of the human elements vital to any organization, whether corporate or combat.

This collection evolved as the Shooks conducted Life Management programs over the years. It became increasingly clear that the fields of Leadership and Management, as practiced by all too many organizations, were long overdue for a major overhaul. The top-down domineering style of management was not only ineffective from the view of productivity and creativity – but it was the culprit behind costly attrition.

This put Marilyn and Hal in high gear to become increasingly involved in promoting a positive value-based and people-sensitive style stemming from Hal’s combat experiences as a squadron commander during the Normandy Invasion period. The result of this involvement was publication of Flying Spirit: A Leader’s Guide to Creating Great Organizations along with development of a variety of workshops and presentations focused on Leadership, Management, Team Building, Strategic Planning, and related human resource topics (e.g. coaching, time management, workforce diversity, etc.). Today, FLYING SPIRIT has been endorsed by five best-selling authors and continues to win accolades!

Hal’s bold work, Fighter Pilot Jazz: Role of the P-47 and Spirited Guys in Winning the Air/Ground War in Normandy 1944, is an exhilarating combination of combat stories and lessons on leadership and management. This fast-paced book weaves true tales from both his memoirs as a fighter squadron commander saving Europe from Hitler and the Nazi forces, and his experiences consulting for corporate organizations and guiding people to their personal and professional best. FIGHTER PILOT JAZZ reaches a remarkable conclusion as Shook neatly packages war stories together with lessons every leader should use in guiding others and living a satisfying life.

Marilyn jumps to the heart of workplace issues with her book Working Happy: Dodging Bullets, Making Changes, Finding Joy. To have a “great organization,” spirited people have to be within. After hundreds of personal interviews, Marilyn has found that an alarming number of working people are not happy in their jobs, desire change, but lack the courage and/or knowledge to forge a new path. This book provides worksheets, examples, charts, graphs, checklists, guidelines, and helpful hints to aid anyone who seeks to go happily to work each day.
